We live and work in a world that is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. As leaders and team members, we are experiencing the uncertainty and unpredictability of continuous change and we are being exposed to an overwhelming amount of information 24/7 as a result of innovations in technology.
We are seeing the pressure on our workplaces to become even more flexible, agile and innovative as competition in our markets increases and customers become more demanding.
More than ever, we need leaders who can step up to the plate with the skills, behaviours and attributes that are relevant for this business climate.
Stress-related absenteeism, sickness and presenteeism (where the person is physically present but not fully productive) are all on the increase and impacting morale, effectiveness and the bottom line.
Whether you need to proactively address these issues in your organisation or you want to invest further in your people’s well-being, we want to help you make that difference.
We chose the name BrainSmart to reflect the growing importance of the discoveries arising from studies in the world of Neuroscience. With each new discovery we are realising just how smart the brain is. For example, up until 10 years ago we thought that the brain was ‘fixed’ by the age of 40 and deteriorated from then on. Thanks to the work of Dr Norman Doidge, we now know that the brain is ‘plastic’ and keeps changing and developing once we know how to create the right conditions.
We are committed to using the findings from Neuroscience to develop an approach to learning and development which builds on the science and helps us use our amazing brain to a much greater capacity than we have done before. We offer cutting edge, evidence-based strategies and solutions to meet the practical challenges we face on a day to day basis in our workplaces and lives to create change practices that are innovative and sustainable.
Our commitment to being BrainSmart doesn’t just extend to the content of our workshops. We also deliver using brain-friendly practices such as:-
- working in ‘sprints’ with regular breaks
- spacing learning initiatives so that there is time to reflect, practise and apply new learnings
- offering plenty of opportunity to ‘think, pair, share’
- sharing personal stories to connect and help transfer key messages
- ensuring participants stay hydrated and have regular opportunities to stretch
- encouraging an open mind to new practices and theories
- varying our brain-friendly initiatives to appeal to all senses – visual, auditory and kinaesthetic
- when catering for an event, ensuring that food is ‘brain-friendly’ e.g. no heavy carbohydrates, lots of fresh food and minimal sugar
“Thank you for sharing what were very personal experiences – it really helped me relate, not only to what you said, but also to how the strategies and techniques could transfer not only to work but also into my personal life”
Our Mission, Vision and Values
This is the essence of what we do
We enable people to lead effectively, think smarter and develop their resilience to thrive in change by engaging their amazing brains
This is the aspiration that we continually aim to reach
A working world where leaders are inspiring, managers are motivating, staff are engaged and employee well – being is as important as profits.
These are the core beliefs that drive our behaviour and ethics
Never stay still – we continually develop ourselves personally and professionally and look to do the same for our clients through continual innovation and improvement
Manage energy over time – We believe it’s important to practise what we preach. We plan our work and thinking according to our personal energy levels; we take regular breaks and we maintain work/life balance boundaries
Brain-friendly through and through – we operate in a brain-friendly way. This means spacing learning, offering opportunities for reflection, providing learning in multiple formats and checking in regularly
“Oops, sorry” – if we ‘stuff up’ we ‘fess up’. We won’t hide behind our mistakes and should something go wrong, we’ll work with you to make amends and turn a problem into a win:win solution
